DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OPERATING SYSTEM AND KERNEL ....

Hello friends...From previous few days i am try to know about the difference between operating system and kernel. i am try to find this different by using some sites and books but i am not fully satisfy. some say "both are same " and some says " both are different ". I am going to tell you some different between them and if you know more about  their different then please comment ...

OPERATING SYSTEM :- An operating system is software package that act as interface (intermediate) between user of computer and computer hardware. It manages all the process of computer system. we can simply say that operating system is the heart of the computer system. without operating system we can't do anything in our computer system. the main goal of an operating system is to provide an environment where an user can execute their program..

KERNEL :- A kernel is a part of operating system. It communicate directly computer hardware and application program. kernel is also a computer program that manages the input / output request from software and translate them into data processing instruction.

  • The kernel has full knowledge of threads that execute in a process and operating system is just the interface between user and computer hardware.
  • kernel is responsible for hardware level instruction at some specific range but the operating system is hardware level instruction with full scope of computer.
